Dr Marcel Ghoukassian, Osteopath
Dr Marcel Ghoukassian has been a practicing osteopath for 22 years. He graduated from osteopathic medicine at Victoria University after completing his Masters degree for research in the assessment of spinal dysfunction. Through his youth he participated in a wide variety of sports including basketball, tennis, football, baseball, hockey, athletics, surfing, skiing and golf; and at great expense to his parents developed a vast first hand knowledge of sporting injuries!
Over the years he has maintained a special interest in the treatment and management of both acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, especially of the neck and back. In particular a love of golf and tennis has exposed him to some of the many injury pitfalls associated with these sporting pursuits … handicap included! In 2014 Marcel travelled to the USA and Canada to undertake further study in the science of golf. He is now a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Health and Fitness professional, allowing him to assist both recreational and professional golfers to improve their golfing performance and to minimise their injury risk.
Following further education in the treatment and long-term management of tendon injuries, Marcel now utilises the latest technology, Shockwave Therapy (ESWT/RSWT), to address tennis and golfer’s elbow, gluteal and achilles tendinopathies and plantar fasciitis. With an approximate success rate of 80%, it is easy to see why this is becoming an increasingly popular choice by patients, allowing them to get back to what they love doing faster.
As an osteopath, Marcel utilises many hands-on treatment techniques (including soft tissue work and joint mobilisation) and has undertaken comprehensive training in Pilates and Dry-needling. He has treated a wide variety of patients, from office workers to labourers, and from elite athletes to weekend warriors. In the past he has worked trackside with a number of V8 Supercar drivers, treating them and their pit crew to ensure maximum performance on race day.
You do not require a referral to see Marcel and he is a member of Osteopathy Australia.
